Participants in the Home Study Program need not worry about a lack of resources available to them. There is an entire team of volunteers available to assist you in educating your child.
At our sessions, workbooks are collected and corrected by Catechists. This ensures that your child is learning what he/she should be learning. Catechists will spend time reviewing the workbook, and will give written advice to help your child learn even more.
The following is a description of the team of volunteers that will be working at the conferences to ensure your child is receiving the tools that he/she needs to gain a knowledge of the faith. If you are willing to server as a volunteer, please contact the Religious Education Office. Dozens of volunteers are needed, so please consider helping us.
Catechist/Teacher:
Students are segregated by grade in classrooms at the Parish Center. Students are seated with their peers at a table, with a Catechist teaching an important topic and leading a group discussion. Each session opens with an age-appropriate prayer, with emphasis on the prayers that the students should know or are learning. The lesson will be designed so that it reviews previous lessons, reiterates important points of those lessons, and looks ahead to upcoming lessons. Activity sheets will be provided for students as well. The session ends with a prayer.
Assistant:
Each Teacher/Catechist will have an assistant. The assistant will help the teacher facilitate the class by organizing paperwork etc, and will at times, if willing/able, teach a small part of a lesson or review session.
Workbook Grader:
Catechists gather in the AV Room where they correct student workbooks and write students notes of encouragement etc. A Workbook Review form for each student is filled out and collected by the Religious Education Office. This form will inform the office whether the student is keeping up with his/her studies, and will notify the office if corrective action should be taken.
